What deposit certification is and why you should do it
When you deposit crypto-assets bought on another platform or held in an external wallet into Young Platform, we do not know the price you bought them at. Under the managed savings regime (regime amministrato), this price is used to calculate tax only on your actual gain. With certification, you prove the purchase price to us by uploading official documents: we check them and record the recognised price for each deposit. Without certification, the purchase price of a deposit is valued at 0 EUR.
Why do it
Under the managed savings regime, the purchase price is calculated using the weighted average cost of all the units you own: an uncertified deposit enters the average at 0 EUR and lowers the cost of your entire position, including units bought on Young Platform. How the calculation works is explained in How purchase price and capital gains are calculated in the managed savings regime.
An example: you have 1 BTC bought on Young Platform at 60,000 EUR and you deposit 1 BTC bought elsewhere at 50,000 EUR. Then you sell 1 BTC at 70,000 EUR.
- With certification, the average cost is 55,000 EUR and tax is calculated on a capital gain of 15,000 EUR: with the 33% tax rate you pay 4,950 EUR.
- Without certification, the average cost drops to 30,000 EUR and tax is calculated on a capital gain of 40,000 EUR: with the 33% tax rate you pay 13,200 EUR, which is 8,250 EUR more.
Certification is optional and subject to a fee. Its effect is proportional to the amount deposited compared to what you own in total: for low-value deposits you can assess whether the cost of certification is worth the tax savings.
By when to do it
Until 31 December 2026 you can certify your deposits without limits, whatever transactions you make. From 1 January 2027, with the launch of the managed savings regime, the purchase price can only be certified until you carry out certain transactions. After that, the 0 EUR becomes definitive.
- Deposits made before the regime comes into force (for those who joined in 2026, before 1 January 2027): you can certify them until the first transaction you make after it comes into force, even if it concerns another crypto-asset. These transactions do not include euro or crypto-asset deposits and euro withdrawals.
- Deposits made after it comes into force: you can certify them until the first transaction you make with the deposited crypto-assets, even if it is not a sale.
This is why it is best to certify historical deposits by 31 December 2026: that way from 2027 you can trade without limits, without the risk of deposits dropping to 0 EUR, and you pay 1% of the value of the deposits instead of 2%: read Certification prices and Club discounts.
How it works
- You verify the wallets and accounts that the deposits come from: personal wallets with a technical check, accounts on other platforms with documents such as screenshots or account statements. Read How to verify non-custodial personal wallets.
- You select the deposits and pay. Read How to select deposits to certify.
- After payment you upload the documents that prove ownership of the wallets on other platforms and the purchase price of the deposits. Read What documents are needed for deposit certification.
- We check the documents. If data is missing, or if some documents are illegible or incorrect, we ask you for additional information: you can re-upload documents at no extra cost. If even after providing extra information the documents are not enough, the deposit is recorded at 0 EUR.
- At the end of the check, certification closes and the recognised purchase price is assigned to each deposit. If there is no documentation for a deposit, the purchase price is recorded at 0 EUR. If after payment you do not take any action on your request for more than 30 days, we close it.
If you choose not to certify a deposit
Your can exclude a deposit from certification: its purchase price definitively becomes 0 EUR. How to choose deposits is explained in How to select deposits to certify.
The statuses of a deposit
- To certify: you have not started certification yet.
- Under review: certification is in progress.
- Awaiting address verification: the origin wallet verification is missing.
- Certified: the purchase price has been recognised.
- Definitive 0 EUR: you excluded the deposit, or when certification closed documentation to recognise the price was missing, or you made a transaction that closes the option to certify it. You can always find the reason in the deposit details.
