How to verify personal non-custodial wallets

On Young Platform you can deposit cryptocurrencies using two types of addresses. The procedure to prove ownership varies depending on the type of wallet chosen:

  • Addresses on centralised exchanges (e.g. Binance, Coinbase or Kraken): the platform holds the private keys and manages the address on your behalf. Since you cannot sign a message directly, ownership is proven by submitting the transaction history downloaded from the exchange along with a screenshot of your user profile and the account statement in PDF format.
  • Personal non-custodial wallets (self-custody, e.g. MetaMask, Ledger or Phantom): in this case you directly own the private keys. You can therefore confirm that you are the owner of the address by applying a digital signature via the wallet or by running the Satoshi Test.

If you have opted for the Regulated Tax Regime (Regime Amministrato), address verification is also essential to certify crypto deposits: if unverified, the tax acquisition value (cost basis) will be set to €0 by default.

Before you start

  • You can only use addresses that you own: deposits from third-party wallets are returned.
  • Keep the address to be verified at hand, referring to the network you use for depositing or withdrawing.
  • The Satoshi Test and signing with Ledger or Trezor only work from a computer.

How to certify addresses from a centralised exchange

For exchange addresses, no signatures or Satoshi Tests are needed, and it is not necessary to add them in advance to Saved Addresses.

When you make a deposit from another exchange, the transaction remains pending until the source platform confirms the data required by regulations (Travel Rule): times depend on the origin exchange.

If you adhere to the Regulated Tax Regime, ownership of exchange addresses is proven during the certification of crypto deposits, along with the purchase price:

  1. Download the complete transaction history in CSV format from the exchange: you can find detailed instructions for each platform in the guide Exporting transaction history from other platforms.
  2. Also download the account statement in PDF format from the exchange.
  3. Take a screenshot of your profile on the exchange that clearly shows your personal details and the name of the platform.
  4. Open Taxes & Reports and start the crypto deposit certification.
  5. Upload all documentation (transaction history, PDF account statement and profile screenshot) in a single upload.
  6. If we ask you for an addition, you can re-upload the documents at no extra cost. If you take no action on the case for more than 30 days, the certification closes and the deposits without documentation retain a cost basis of €0.

We advise you to complete it by 31 December 2026: you pay 1% instead of 2% of the value of the deposits and from 1 January 2027 the first operation other than incoming deposits and euro withdrawals makes the €0 cost basis of uncertified deposits definitive.

How to verify a personal non-custodial wallet

If you make a crypto deposit from your personal wallet or wish to withdraw to it, you must first prove ownership. Verification is carried out only once for each address and is valid for both deposits and withdrawals: subsequently, operations to and from that address will be processed automatically. A withdrawal to a yet unverified wallet remains pending and is not executed until you complete the verification.

Here is a summary of the steps:

  1. Copy the address from your wallet.
  2. Add it to Saved Addresses.
  3. Prove ownership via wallet signature or with the Satoshi Test.

How to find your wallet address

Your public address is the unique alphanumeric string that identifies your wallet on the blockchain network (e.g. 0x... for Ethereum or bc1... for Bitcoin) and is used to receive crypto: you can share it securely. Never share your recovery phrase (seed phrase) or private key: Young Platform will never ask you for them.

In almost all wallets you can find the address in the Receive section or by selecting your account name. Since each network has a specific address, always use the built-in copy function to avoid typing errors. If you use a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor, always check and confirm the address on the physical device screen. In the following paragraphs you will find detailed steps for each type of wallet.

How to add the address to Saved Addresses

From the app:

  1. Open the profile menu and tap Access and Security.
  2. Tap Saved wallet addresses: the Saved addresses page opens.
  3. Under Add address tap New.
  4. Choose the correct network, paste the public address copied from the wallet and confirm with the OTP code to complete the association.
  5. Start the verification by choosing one of the methods described below.

From a computer:

  1. Log in to Young Platform from a computer and go to https://exchange.youngplatform.com/account (or click on your profile icon and then on Settings).
  2. Select Saved withdrawal addresses.
  3. Click on Add address and follow the same procedure as on the app.

If you have already made a deposit from your wallet, the address will already be listed but not enabled for withdrawals: to enable it, select it in Saved Addresses and confirm with the OTP code.

When you deposit from a personal wallet, the app will ask you to indicate the origin of the funds: select the option relating to your personal wallet. The deposit will be credited only after verification is complete; until then it will remain pending, with no expiry date.

How to verify that the wallet is yours

Available methods are alternative: we recommend automatic signing as it is the fastest procedure. If your wallet does not support it, you can opt for manual signing or the Satoshi Test. Signing does not move funds and incurs no cost. The recommended method for each type of wallet is illustrated below.

Automatic signing (connect wallet)

  1. On the verification screen choose Connect wallet and select your wallet from the list.
  2. Approve the connection in the wallet (for MetaMask and other Ethereum network wallets connection often happens via WalletConnect).
  3. The wallet shows you a message to sign: check that the address is the right one and confirm.
  4. Wait for confirmation in the app: the address will thus be verified.

If your wallet does not appear in the list or signing fails, resort to manual signing; if the wallet does not support message signing, run the Satoshi Test from a computer. With Ledger and Trezor use the desktop platform, as they are not supported by the mobile app.

Manual signing (copy and paste)

This method is suitable for wallets that support message signing but not direct connection.

  1. Copy the message proposed by the platform.
  2. In your wallet open the Sign message function, select the corresponding address and paste the text without making any changes, spaces or extra line breaks.
  3. Copy the signature generated by the wallet and paste it into the platform field.
  4. Confirm. If "Signature failed" appears, start over with a new message or switch to the Satoshi Test.

For the Bitcoin network: if the wallet allows it, select the BIP-137 signature format.

Satoshi Test (micro-transfer)

Manufacturer tests are compatible with any wallet capable of sending transactions on any network, and can currently only be performed from a computer.

  1. From a computer, choose Satoshi Test on the verification screen.
  2. The platform gives you a precise amount and the Young Platform address to send it to.
  3. Send the exact amount requested from the specific address to be verified, avoiding sending it from other addresses belonging to the same wallet.
  4. Copy the transaction hash (TxID or Transaction hash, not the block hash) and paste it into the platform.
  5. Wait for network confirmations: if the origin address matches the one indicated, verification will happen automatically.

The amount sent and the network fee are at your expense.

Contact support if no method is compatible with your wallet (in some cases an alternative verification might be required, such as a video recording) or if, despite having completed verification, the deposit still shows as pending: specify the network, address and TxID of the transaction.

How to avoid the most frequent errors

  • Indicating the wrong origin of funds (for example selecting "Young Platform" or an exchange instead of a personal wallet): in this case verification will fail and cannot be corrected independently. Make sure you select the correct origin of funds before confirming. If you have already confirmed, contact support.
  • Failure to complete verification: the deposit will remain in a pending state until the procedure is completed.
  • Signing after an error in the flow: the signature will not be corrected or associated. If an error occurs in the flow, you must restart the procedure from the beginning.
  • Modifying the message to be signed: the signature will result invalid. Copy and paste the text exactly as provided.
  • Entering the block hash instead of the TxID: this way the Satoshi Test cannot be recognised by the system.
  • Sending the Satoshi Test from a different address: verification will remain pending. Make sure you always send from the exact address subject to verification.
  • Using a third-party wallet: the deposit is returned.
