How to leave the administered regime
You can leave the administered regime and return to the declared tax regime at any time by signing the Revocation Form. This changes when the exit takes effect:
- if you reside in Italy, this is called revocation: it takes effect from 1st January of the following year (details are below, in «When the revocation takes effect»);
- if you reside abroad, this is called renunciation: it takes effect immediately, from your first transaction after signing, without having to prove your foreign tax residency. The form is still called the Revocation Form.
Before you start
- Already certified deposits and verified wallets remain saved: if you return to the administered regime in the future, you will find them without having to repeat certification or verification.
- If you have a pending certification, read What happens to deposit certifications when you renounce the administered regime before signing.
- When the exit takes effect, we will communicate the tax values of the crypto-assets you hold and any uncompensated capital losses to use in your tax return: read How capital losses are managed between the declared and managed tax regimes.
- From that moment, taxes on crypto-assets in your Young Wallet become your responsibility again.
Here is a summary of the steps to return to the declared tax regime:
- Open Taxes & Report from your profile and go to the administered regime section.
- Click Return to declared regime.
- Read the consequences of exiting and the Revocation Form. If you have a pending certification, the app will notify you before you proceed.
- Confirm that you have read and accepted the form and click Sign.
- On the confirmation screen, you will find the date from which you will be on the declared tax regime.
If you start the exit process but do not sign, nothing changes: you remain on the administered regime.
When the revocation takes effect
If you reside in Italy, the revocation, just like adherence, takes effect from 1st January of the year following your signature. What changes in practice depends on the regime you are on when you sign the Revocation Form:
- If you are still on the declared tax regime: you adhered during the year and the administered regime would have started on the following 1st January. By revoking, you cancel your adherence before it becomes effective: you remain on the declared tax regime and continue to be on it from 1st January. For example, if you adhere in November 2026 and revoke in December 2026, you remain on the declared tax regime in 2027 as well.
- If you are already on the administered regime: you remain on the administered regime until 31st December and switch to the declared tax regime from 1st January of the following year. Until then, we will continue to calculate, withhold and pay taxes for you. For example, if you revoke in March 2027, you are on the administered regime until 31st December 2027 and on the declared tax regime from 1st January 2028.
By 31st December you can change your mind as many times as you like: the last choice you made determines the regime for the following year. If you adhere again, you will find your certified deposits and verified wallets.
The rule in brief
Adherence and revocation always take effect from 1st January of the year following signature. Only three cases are exceptions:
- New sign-ups: if you sign up to Young Platform from 1st January 2027 and choose the administered regime during sign-up, it is active immediately.
- Residents abroad: they are automatically on the administered regime, without needing to adhere.
- Renunciation by residents abroad: takes effect immediately, from the first transaction after signing the Revocation Form.
If you reside abroad
You can renounce the administered regime whenever you want, without having to prove where you pay taxes: the renunciation takes effect from the first transaction following the signing of the Revocation Form.
If you want to return later, adhere again from the app as described in How to adhere to the administered regime: the administered regime comes back into force from 1st January of the year following adherence. For example, if you renounce in March 2027 and adhere again in June 2027, you will be on the administered regime from 1st January 2028.
