Every transaction on the DeFi Wallet requires a network fee, which can be paid in ETH, USDC, EURC or YNG, depending on the settings you've chosen in the Manage fees section. If you don't hold any of these four cryptocurrencies, you won't be able to carry out any transactions (such as sends, swaps or Lending deposits), even if your wallet's overall balance isn't empty.
In this case, the Network fees card will appear on the DeFi Wallet screen, with the INSUFFICIENT BALANCE label and an Add funds button that lets you get the crypto you need. This guide walks you through the steps to get enough funds to cover network fees.
Before you start
- The card appears whenever you don't have enough crypto to cover network fees, and disappears as soon as your balance in one of them is positive again.
- You have two options: move ETH or YNG you already hold in your Young Wallet to your DeFi Wallet, or buy USDC or EURC with euros. As stablecoins can't be moved from the Young Wallet, they only appear among the purchase options.
- In both cases, the order is executed on the Young Platform platform and the crypto is credited straight to your DeFi Wallet.
- Each transaction has a minimum and a maximum amount, clearly shown below the field where you enter the figure.

Move ETH or YNG from the Young Wallet
This is the quickest option if you already have ETH or YNG in your Young Wallet.
Here are the steps:
- On the Network fees card, tap Add funds.
- On the Add funds screen, under From Young Wallet, tap the crypto you want to move: its available balance is shown next to it.
- Enter how much you want to move. You can use MAX or the quick percentages, and check the minimum amount shown below the figure.
- Tap Order preview and check the details: cryptocurrency, source and destination wallets, network, amount and fees.
- Tap Confirm order and authorise with Face ID or your fingerprint.
Buy USDC or EURC
If you don't have ETH or YNG in your Young Wallet, or you'd rather pay fees in stablecoins, you can buy them with euros without leaving the flow.
Here are the steps:
- On the Network fees card, tap Add funds.
- Under Buy, choose USD Coin (USDC) or EUR Coin (EURC).
- Enter the amount in euros, using the quick amounts or MAX. The equivalent value in stablecoins is shown below the figure; you can change the payment source by tapping Edit.
- Tap Order preview: you'll see the price, the credit to your DeFi Wallet, the amount, fees, net amount and the quote countdown.
- Tap Confirm order before the countdown runs out and complete the security check, if prompted.
Once confirmed, the order can't be cancelled. When it's complete, the Network fees card disappears from the wallet page.
If you were in the middle of another transaction
You'll often notice your balance is too low while you're doing something else, such as sending or swapping crypto. In that case, once you've topped up, a Back to previous transaction button appears: tap it to pick up where you left off.
If the transaction fails
You'll see the Transaction failed message, asking you to check your balance and refresh the quote. Tap Try again. If the error persists, open a ticket with Support. No amount will be charged until the transaction has gone through successfully.
