When you first activate it, your DeFi Wallet is empty. To open a Lending position, you need stablecoins such as USDC or EURC in your available balance. The quickest way to get them is to buy them directly with euros using the Add funds card, which appears on the wallet page for as long as your stablecoin balance is zero. The order is processed on the Young Platform platform and the stablecoins are credited straight to your DeFi Wallet.
This guide covers buying stablecoins for lending. If the app tells you that you don't have enough crypto to cover network fees, see the guide How to add funds to pay network fees.
Before you start
- Stablecoins can't be moved from the Young Wallet to the DeFi Wallet: to have them in your DeFi Wallet, you need to buy them.
- You pay with the euro balance of your Young Platform account; you can change the payment method by tapping Edit.
- Each purchase has a minimum and a maximum amount, shown below the figure you enter.
- The buttons in this flow are green: the order is executed on the Young Platform, not on the DeFi Wallet.
How to buy
- On the DeFi Wallet page, tap Add funds on the card of the same name.
- On the Add funds screen, under Buy, choose USD Coin (USDC) or EUR Coin (EURC).
- Enter the amount in euros. You can use the quick amounts (€10, €100, €500, €1,000) or MAX; the equivalent value in stablecoins is shown below the figure. If you exceed your balance or go outside the limits, the balance turns red and the button stays disabled.
- Check the payment source and tap Order preview.
- Check the details: cryptocurrency, price, credit to the DeFi Wallet, amount, fees and net amount. At the top, a countdown shows how long the quote remains valid.
- Tap Confirm order before the countdown runs out. If it expires, the app refreshes the quote and you can confirm again.
Once the purchase is complete, the stablecoins are in the available balance of your DeFi Wallet. From there, it's up to you whether and when to open a Lending position.
Other ways to get stablecoins into your DeFi Wallet
If you already hold USDC or EURC in another self-custody wallet, you can transfer them to your DeFi Wallet using the Receive feature: make sure you select the Ethereum network, otherwise you could lose your funds. If you already have other cryptocurrencies in your DeFi Wallet, you can instead convert them into stablecoins directly on-chain using the Swap feature.
If the transaction fails
If you see the Transaction failed error message, the app will ask you to check your available balance and refresh the quote. Just tap Try again to recalculate the price and confirm the order again. If the error persists, contact Support by opening a ticket.
